I’ve been rejected 13,000+ times. Thirteen thousand. All because someone looked at my resume and made a decision without ever seeing the person behind it. I’ve been overlooked, misjudged, and frustrated by a system that’s broken. But what stings more than the rejections? Knowing that this same process is still happening to thousands of people every day—just because we don’t have the right systems in place.
After studying this problem as a candidate, and then working as a recruiter, I met my co-founder, Omid. Together, we decided it was time to finally fix the mess that’s been plaguing organizations for far too long. It’s the problem that causes half of small businesses to shut down and is the fourth biggest global organizational crisis in companies today. It’s a crisis where millions of jobs and millions of talented people are searching for one another, but the solutions we’ve built up until now have been one-sided.
A member of the Forbes HR Council once said that recruitment tools were built to reject candidates, not to select them—and I fully agree. Why? Because the only way recruitment can move forward is through actionable data. For the last two decades, we’ve been building solutions that don’t enable actionable data. As a result, the gap between talent and organizations has only widened.

Octopus is the bridge. Our logo represents that gap—the disconnection between candidates and recruiters. We built Octopus to close that gap, using technology that brings both sides together with real-time, actionable data.
